Drakkar de Vendée is an exciting partnership that aims to build a replica of a 9th century Viking longship in the Les Sables d’Olonne region of the Vendée. To carry out this ambitious project, the association has the support of various partners, including PIHER.

PIHER has just formalized the collaboration agreement and has provided high-quality support for the reconstruction of the longship, ensuring that volunteers have the adequate tools to carry out this historic task.

The Drakkar de Vendéehas several goals:

• Historical Reconstruction: The project seeks to recreate a longship faithful to the methods and materials used in the Viking era. This involves investigating historical sources, studying archaeological remains and applying traditional construction techniques.
• Education and Culture: The association’s mission is to educate the public about Viking history and navigation at that time. The longship will be a teaching tool for schools, museums and cultural events.
• Practical Experience: Construction work is based on volunteering. People with skills in carpentry and craftsmanship come together to bring the longship to life. It is a unique opportunity to learn and apply ancient techniques.

Support for cultural projects of historical reconstruction

The collaboration between PIHER and the Vendée Drakkar is similar to the one that already exists with the AlbaolaProject. In both cases, it involves reconstructing historic vessels using traditional techniques and authentic materials. The passion for history and craftsmanship comes together in these projects, and PIHER tools, sent from its headquarters in Logroño, become a link between these two projects.
